Consolidated Catalina 'P'
This section of the Aviation Collection contains a photographic
tribute to a unique reconnaissance aircraft, the Consolidated Catalina and one in
particular, namely, Catalina 'P'.
The aircraft featured here, Catalina 'P', met with it's untimely
demise when it sank in the Solent, U.K. shortly after these photographs were taken
during the Festival of Flight 1998 held at the
National Museums of Scotland, Museum of Flight,
East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian, Scotland over
the weekend of 18 and 19 July 1998. The aircraft has subsequently been
raised and is being restored. It was wearing the colour scheme of the
Scottish Victoria Cross recipient John Cruickshank who flew Catalinas
during World War II against the German U-Boats.
The photographs featured here were
taken on 18 July 1998.
