Avro Lancaster (PA474)

The Avro Lancaster is undoubtedly the most famous, and possibly the most important, British bomber of W.W.II used by the Royal Air Force.

Lancaster PA474 featured here is the Lancaster from the R.A.F.'s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

This first series of photographs of PA474 were taken during the International Air Tattoo 1985 held at R.A.F. Fairford, Gloucestershire, England on 14 July 1985.

This second series of photographs of PA474 were taken during the International Air Tattoo 1989 held at R.A.F. Fairford, Gloucestershire, England on 23 July 1989 - a very hot day and very bright sunshine making it tricky to get exposures just right!

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight performed a fly-by following the Lancaster's solo performance. Photographs of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fly-by on this day are included in a separate section.
